Spanish V Honors: Week of August 1

Monday

What are the learning objectives?

  • The student understands the learning objectives of the class.
  • The student understands classroom procedures, policies, and assignments.

What are we doing today?

  • Students will get to know each other by interviewing classmates with questions provided by Señora. Galuszka.
  • Galuszka will discuss the syllabus, blog, VHL Central, classroom procedures, grades, objectives of the class and assignments.
  • Given a page with questions, students will ask other students questions in the preterite tense and will find two study buddies for the semester.
  • Students will play a fun trivia game over L.A. culture, grammar and vocabulary.
  • Señora Galuszka will introduce herself to the class and the students will model the presentation by introducing themselves in Spanish.

What is the homework?

  • Purchase Meade composition book or bring $1 to purchase one from me or The Hole in the Wall.
  • Study vocabulary  1.1 for Friday’s Quiz.

Tuesday

What are the learning objectives?

  • The student plans and produces written presentational communications.
  • The student comprehends level appropriate written language on topics related to contemporary events and issues utilizing cultural references where appropriate.

What are we doing today?

  • Today, students will take a benchmark writing test. This test will not go in the gradebook.
  • We will begin Theme 1- Families and Communities. Students will begin familiarizing themselves with the theme by working in groups of three to make a list of community organizations that exist in their school or community.
  • Students will share their work with the class adding commentary from the guided questions of the task.
  • Students will write journal entry #1 about which of the mentioned organizations they think to be most important and why.
  • Students will be given time in class to work on their current event presentations, vocabulary or grammar portfolios.

What is the homework?

  • Study your vocabulary  1.1 for Friday’s Quiz.
  • Group A should be prepared to present their current events tomorrow. Please submit the visual component of your presentation to VHL Central tonight.

 Wednesday

What are the learning objectives?

  • The student presents previously learned as well as newly acquired information on topics related to contemporary events and issues utilizing cultural references where appropriate.

What are we doing today?

  • Students from Group A will present their current events.
  • Students will go over last night’s reading activities. Questions about the reading will appear on the Tema 1 Mid-Unit Assessment. Please keep thorough notes and analysis in your folder.
  • Students will play a vocabulary game with this week’s vocabulary.

 Thursday

What are the learning objectives?

  • The student understands connected discourse presented through print and electronic media in the target language.

What are we doing today?

  • Students will play a game with vocabulary 1.1
  • Students will do research on Mexican artist, Carlos Fuentes and read a fragment of one of his articles about education. Questions about the reading will appear on the Tema 1 Mid-Unit Assessment. Please keep thorough notes and analysis in your folder.
  • Students will work in small groups to answer comprehension questions in their journals (entry #2).

What are the learning objectives?

  • The student compares and contrasts contemporary issues affecting Spanish- speaking countries and the United States.

What are we doing today?

  • Students will take a vocabulary quiz over Vocabulario 1.1.
  • Students will have the opportunity to share their answers from yesterday’s reading with the class.
  • Students will create a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the education systems of Mexico and the United States.
  • Students will work in pairs to write possible solutions to five educational problems.
  • Students will be given time to work on upcoming quizzes, current event presentations, listening activities or notes over writing an email.
