The student comprehends level appropriate written language on topics related to contemporary events and issues utilizing cultural references where appropriate.
What are we doing today?
Today, students will take a benchmark writing test. This test will not go in the gradebook.
We will begin Theme 1- Families and Communities. Students will begin familiarizing themselves with the theme by working in groups of three to make a list of community organizations that exist in their school or community.
Students will share their work with the class adding commentary from the guided questions of the task.
Students will write journal entry #1 about which of the mentioned organizations they think to be most important and why.
Students will be given time in class to work on their current event presentations, vocabulary or grammar portfolios.
Students will do research on Mexican artist, Carlos Fuentes and read a fragment of one of his articles about education. Questions about the reading will appear on the Tema 1 Mid-Unit Assessment. Please keep thorough notes and analysis in your folder.
Students will work in small groups to answer comprehension questions in their journals (entry #2).
