What are the learning objectives?

  • Identify and summarize main points and important details and make appropriate inferences and predictions from a written text, such as a newspaper or magazine article or a contemporary literary excerpt.
  • Identify and summarize the main points and significant details and make appropriate inferences and predictions from a spoken source, such as a broadcast news report or a lecture, on an academic or cultural topic related to the Spanish-speaking world.
  • Initiate, maintain, and close a conversation on a familiar topic.
  • Use language that is semantically and grammatically accurate.

What are we doing today?

  • Students will complete a warm-up activity with the vocabulary in context.
  • Students will complete a practice reading activity.
  • Students will read Las escuelas que siguen a los chicos and complete reading comprehension and discussion questions. Questions about this reading will be included on the mid-unit assessment on Monday, 1/30.

What is the homework?

  • Find a Spanish language source (articles, blogs, podcasts, etc.) that discusses a challenge or trend related to contemporary life and write a 200 word reflection piece. Include the potential causes and implications of the challenge or trend and relate it to your own community. Be prepared to share with the class tomorrow.
  • Study vocabulary 4.1Quiz on Monday,1/30.
  • Continue working on your first cultural comparison presentation. First presentations are on Friday, 1/13.

  • Students will share and turn in their reflection pieces about challenges and/ or trends related to contemporary life.
  • Students will continue reading Las escuelas que siguen a los chicos and complete reading comprehension and discussion questions. Questions about this reading will be included on the mid-unit assessment on Monday, 1/30.

What is the homework?

  • Finish reading Las escuelas que siguen a los chicos and complete reading comprehension and discussion questions  (Sections 1,2 and 4).
  • Study vocabulary 4.1Quiz on Monday, 1/23.
